I’ve spent the first three posts doing a bit of an introduction in talking about the three cats I’ve had/have in my life. In this post, I thought I’d begin to discuss the challenging behaviours I’ve experienced with cats and how I’ve helped the cat to overcome them.

In the last post, I talked about how my welcoming my second cat, Dolly, into my life had been a goal in my mental health recovery for so long. In this post, I’d like to tell you about the cat who inspired the name of this column; my little Calico kitten, Emmy, who I adopted after losing Dolly in 2018.

In the last post, I talked about how my first cat; Saffy, had been a massive support for me during the trauma that I experienced when I was younger. In this post, I would like to tell you about my second cat; Dolly, who was a pivotal achievement in my mental health recovery.

I decided to embark on my first big fundraising challenge back in October 2015. I was working for Ferndown Cats Protection as a cat care assistant and signed up to the London to Paris bike ride taking place in July 2016.

Ten years ago this summer, I decided to take on the care of a little miracle. Thirty minutes into her life she had already lost her mother and siblings. I called her Gloria (Gaynor) – she was a survivor!

I used to be more than happy to not become the ‘Crazy Cat Lady’ acquiring cat after cat – one is plenty, I told myself. That was until I met a tiny kitten amongst the ferns.
